Sony Action Cam 4K X1000V Preview

Sony have announced the are expanding their Sony Action Cam range at the recent 2015 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) hosted in Las Vegas.

The biggest news is the inclusion of a new model with the capability to shoot 4K video footage. The new model X1000V shares the same design language as other Sony Action Cam models , but moves from 1080p out put to the higher 3840x2160 pixel (4K) high definition format (shooting at 30 frames per second).

Sony have specified that the 4K footage captured on the X1000V can be played back directly on a 4K TV or monitor via HDMI cable. The rapid update and launch of the new Action Cam with 4K capability shows that Sony is taking their role in this category very seriously, as they are keep pace with dominate player GoPro who announced and released their new models, including the range toping 4K Hero 4 Black in late 2014.

Sony Action Cam 4K X1000V Zeiss Lens

The specifications on the new X1000V include, an ultra-wide 170-degree Zeiss lens, back-illuminated Exmoor R CMOS sensor and Sony’s Bionz X image processor and also some shared technology from the Sony digital camera range, full pixel readout, which provides better resolution and image quality. Sony are also continuing with their SteadyShot stabilisation system, which is electronic, not optical it’s a proven system and Sony are highlighting that they have tweaked the technology to improve performance when the Action Cam is used with an airborne drone.

Sony Action Cam 4K X1000V Coming March 2015

In addition to shooting in 4K, the X1000V can shoot 1080p at up to 120 frames per second and 720p at 240 frames per second for slow motion effects. Sony have also boosted manual exposure control, such as white balance.

The Sony Action Cam X1000V is also joined by the AS200V, which shares main features, but is limited to 1080p as the highest HD setting. Both Action Cameras are supported by the ever-growing range of accessories, mounts and housings from Sony and have support for the Sony LiveView Remote.

The new Sony Action Cam models will be available from March onward, for exact dates and local pricing check with your local Sony website.
