Gary Fisher Bikes RIP.

Say Hullo to the Gary Fisher Collection, from Trek... it's a bit of mouthful eh? So Trek, who have owned Gary Fisher Bikes since 1996, have discontinued the use of the stand alone range of bikes that used the Gary Fisher branding.

Gary Fisher bikes have generally been developed in a parallel operation, from other Trek product by Gary Fisher himself, and they have also been a notch in price and quality above the comparable Trek products. However in the last couple of years Fisher has been pursuing 29'er style bikes, to the point of the 2009/2010 line up was just 29'ers.

A quote from the official press release follows:
The move dramatically expands exposure for Gary Fisher Collection bikes, which will now be available in 8 times more retail outlets around the world and seen by 10 times more internet viewers. “This makes sense. I love this strategy,” says Gary Fisher. “I’ve been working with Trek on the Fisher Brand since 1996, but this puts me right in the middle of the best team of bike people. I can now bring my ideas to Trek, number one bike brand in the world. Better bikes and more people on those bikes. I love it.”

The latest move by Trek absorbs 29'er technology into the Trek family and also creates a new signature brand that can be rolled out as needed and required.
